Congressman Larson was joined by Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez, State Representative Marie Kirkley-Bey and students from Capital Preparatory Magnet School at the announcement of the City Youth Violence Recovery Act (H.R. 6215). The bill would provide grants for programs to help city youth deal with the aftermath of violence in their community. The bill was conceived as the result of discussions with community and municipal leaders in the wake of increased youth violence in Hartford.

The system allows the High School to operate off the grid during an emergency where East Hartford High School can now be used as a shelter for the local area.
