CONGRESSMAN JOHN B. LARSON
E-Newsletter: Caucus Chairman
December 2, 2008
I am pleased to announce that I have been unanimously
elected by my colleagues in the new Democratic Majority to
serve as Chairman of the Democratic Caucus. I have humbly
accepted this important position and I am already preparing
to work with the Obama Administration on the many issues our
country faces during these difficult times.
In this new leadership role, I have been tasked with a
number of exciting responsibilities. They include: setting
the agenda and presiding over our weekly Democratic Caucus
meetings, establishing the Caucus Issue Task Forces,
appointing Democratic members of Congress to lead each Issue
Task Force, and spearheading legislative and party policy
initiatives.
While excited about my new duties I am mindful that we are
in the midst of two wars and a global economic crisis of
enormous proportion and consequence. Unfortunately, we are
in uncharted and troubled waters. The campaign victories of
Barack Obama, and so many of my Democratic colleagues in the
House and Senate have brought us the hope for a new
direction and a better day.
President Roosevelt informed another generation of
Americans, deep in the Depression, with the winds of war on
the horizon, that they had a, “Rendezvous with Destiny.”
This is not 1933 but the analogies to that time are
striking.
What this Congress and this Democratic Caucus face is a
different rendezvous. We have a rendezvous with reality. The
harsh reality that Americans struggle with daily: the
reality of home foreclosure, job loss, and soaring costs in
health care, energy, and education.
This is not a time for the faint of heart, it is the time to
seize the day, seize this crisis and turn it into
opportunity for our nation’s people.
We do not shrink from this responsibility, we welcome it.
I embrace my new position as Democratic Caucus Chairman,
mindful of the realities citizens of the 1st Congressional
District and the Nation face and resolved that our
collective effort, citizens and statesmen alike, will heal a
nation and return it to prosperity and peace.
I thank you for your continued support and ask that you keep
in touch with your ideas and concerns. I will ask often for
your help as we work with President-elect Barack Obama to
forge a new direction for our Country.
All the Best,

JOHN B. LARSON
Member of Congress

my fund-raising earlier and to raise more money online. Any
help you can give by making a contribution to
